Running Times

I have a few things to post about today. I want to share my latest running playlist and give an update on my running and some fun runs I have coming up. I was taugh in my Public Speaking class at SLCC that it's best to preview the topics you are going to cover when communicating with an audience. Lol. I may not have an audience, but apparently I did learn something in that class. I'm amazed.

I make at least one small change to my playlist about every time I run. Gotta keep it fresh. I also think I have a pretty strange taste in running music. The list is quite random. Here is my latest running playlist:

E.T. by Katy Perry
Fading by Rihanna
Skinny Love by Bon Iver
Do It Like This by The Black Eyed peas
Love You Long Time by The Black Eyed Peas
Pull Up the People by M.I.A.
Diggin' On You by TLC
Blah Blah Blah by Ke$ha
New Low by Middle Class Rut
Untouched by The Veronicas
Musis Is My Hot Hot Sex by CSS

New Low and Skinny Love are two randoms that I've stumbled upon recently. I love them! I love new music, but especially new running music. It's nice to be able to get lost in an awesome song while you run. Running is a very mental thing for me. You're looking at a girl who had to start from the very very bottom of the running ladder and who is still struggling to ever-so-slowly raise the amount of miles I can run at once. My training has been taking forever, but I'm ok with it. I know that when you take your time training, you are much less prone to injury.

The furthest I have ran so far is 6 miles. I made good timing, but I was on the treadmill. Poop. I have recently found out that I enjoy running outside more than I thought! I have done a few outside runs in the past few weeks and it's nice to have a change of scenery. Looking out the window at the rugs in front of the bank across the street just isn't cutting it. Look at my new running shoes....you would think I gave birth to them, I love them so much. 2nd pair of running shoes!

So Ragnar is June 17-18th and guess who has a family reunion complete with family pictures on June 18th? THIS LADY! Yep, I'm going to have to have my brother follow me through my last run and take me up to bountiful to shower and say cheese the minute I am done. I won't get to wait with my team at the finish line =/ Oh well. My grandma and grandpa planned this whole family reunion thing and it is very important to them. I will hustle my bustle and shower and be there prob. in the nick of time for the pictures and to scarf down some food. Sounds like I'll have quite the day, hu? In June and September there are two more Dirty Dash's. I think I may only be doing the one in September. I HAVE to do it though, that was the most fun I have ever had.

My nanny friend, Katie, and I have decided to do a half marathon next spring! Scary!!! Exciting!!! She lives in NY and we are going to meet up in Texas to run it. It is the Dallas, TX half marathon. I am pumped! I can't wait to see her! So, even though I said I would quit running and check out maybe biking, I just can't. It's too much fun. i feel great when I get done with a run. Also, as you can see, I just have way too much fun with runs so I will keep going for now.

PS-Hiking is coming up!!! I am so pumped. I am hiking with my hiking group this Thursday. I can't wait =)

Whew!

So this past week I've been to the gym almost every day. I usually make it about 2, 3 times/week but this has been my schedule for the past week...

Monday-Ran 4 miles w/ hill training

Tuesday-Elliptical and bike

Wednesday-Ran 4 miles w/ double hill training

Thursday-Break

Friday-Elliptical and bike

Saturday-Running in my neighborhood

Sunday-Skiing

I love feeling full of energy and just on top of the world after a good workout! I'm on a roll baby! Hopefully this will continue with the same girth.

I shed blood from running for the first time the other day. Lol. I'm so proud. One day after running, I took off my shoe and found my foot looked like this...

Then I was trying to get some protein in ma belly and I had all of the stuff out in the picture below...this guy at work walked past my desk and goes "Are you pregnant???" Ha ha. It was kind of funny. Running has definitely boosted my metabolism, and I thought I ate a lot before. Geez. I'm always hungry.

4 miles what?!

4 miles is so easy by now! I love it! I am looking to up it to 5 or 6 pretty soon, but I run at lunch and that only allows enough time for 4 miles. I need to make some time on the weekends. I ran up emigration canyon on Friday with some peeps I'll be running Ragnar with. It felt great to run outside. It was a beautiful day, too! I was skiing yesterday and I always love when I'm sore the day after skiing. I think I'm weird, but I love knowing that I was out doing something I love so much and I hardly even realized I was exercising all the while! Ha ha.

EEEEEEEEEE!

I haven't updated in quite a while. That makes me sad.....like this...=( I do have some good news. To me it's good news. I can finally run 4 miles straight! It's taken me a while to get to this point, and I know there are millions of people who can run for much longer than that, but I started this running thing barely being able to run one mile so I feel pretty good! I've also been making very good timing, I can run 4 miles in about 36 minutes, which is 9 minute miles. I've been told that's very good! So my next venture will be 5 miles. I am going to sign up for some 10k's soon (6 mile runs) so get me motivated to get to 6. I need to start running outside though. It's harder for me to run outside so I'm a little nervous but I'm sure I'll be just fine. Something about the concrete shaking up and down in front of me while I run makes me dizzy and not feel well, but oh well. Gotta do what ya gotta do! I have decided that after I'm done with Ragnar I am going to see how I feel about biking instead. Running has been hard on my shins, I feel like I'm 80 years old. Anywho, there's my workout update. Lovin it! =)

Thanksgiving Fun, a Cold, and a Broken Pinky Toe.

I have had a few bumps in the road. Two weeks ago I got a pretty bad head cold. It sucked!!! I haven't had one that bad in a while. Anyway, let's just say I am STILL coughing up nasty shiz. I stopped running for a week or so because of it. Then I stubbed my toe so bad that popular opinion is that I broke it. It was so swollen and purple, I've never experienced that before. Then Thanksgiving rolled around and I had signed up to run the Utah Food Bank 5k that day. I was nervous, with all of these setbacks going on! Dave came with me and waited at the finish line for me. It sucked cuz I had to stop every few minutes to blow my nose. The snot was just making it so hard to breathe!!! Lol. Oh, and ummm yeah it was BUTT ASS COLD!!!!!! It doesn't usually get below like 20 degrees in Utah during winter, and it just so happened to be 7 degrees the morning of the run!!! Yeah. Anywho, I thought at the beginning of the run "I will never do this again!" But after seeing my time results (I was 15th out of the 5k women who had a timing chip) I feel happier about the whole experience and definitely think I'll do it again next year. It feels SO great to go out Thanksgiving morning and get in a good work out, for a good cause, and then go stuff your face with the yummiest food ever!!! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Mine was amazing! =) So now my goal is to move from running 3 miles at lunchtime, to 3.25 and then I'll go uo to 3.5 a week or two later. Lovin it!!! =)

A Month?!

Geez, why do I barely get time to write one blog post/month? Frick. Frack. So, an update is in order...I am still slowly getting ready for Ragnar. The thought kinda scares me. I don't think I'm alone. I think it scares a lot of people. I have been running 2 times/week. I wish it was 3 times/week but with school and having an actual life, I find myself running twice a week. So shoot me. I have gotten to the point where I can comfortably run 3 miles straight though. This is pretty exciting for me. I have never been a big runner in the past. I used to do it every now and then for cardio and even then I was only running a mile here and there. I signed up for a Thanksgiving 5k. Pretty excited about that.
Dave and I went skiing up at brighton on Sunday. It was so so fun! I picked back up right where I had left off. We had a blast. Not all of the runs were open, but it was still super fun. We had lunch at Molly Green's and a couple drinks. It was a prefect day. I can't wait for more of those to come!!! We will be out ever Sunday and Kayden will be up there with us every other Sunday. So fun!

It Feels Good!

Update from last post-
I ran without my ipod but I got some advice beforehand from a guy I work with. He told me, "just run two miles and get it over with as fast as you can. What matters is the miles." I did it in about 18:30 I think and I was very happy about that! It ended up being one of the best runs I've ever had. I'm glad I didn't give in to the temptation to postpone the run!

I have really been enjoying working out lately. I have been running every Mon. and Thurs. and doing pilates every Tuesday. Last night I tried out a kick boxing class with my best friend Michelle. It was fun but it was like aerobics kick boxing, and I'm not very coordinated sometimes. Lol.
I found something new that I just LOVE. I haven't actually gone to a Zumba class yet, but I've been practicing the moves and they are so fun!! Watch this, you will fall in love too...

This one looks way fun...

I love nothing more than finding a workout that I have fun with and that is challenging, and this looks like both. I am going soon with my friend from work. =)

In my last relationship, I was with someone who was so needy of my time and jealous when I spent time on anything besides him, that I didn't get to go out and do fun things like this. My boyfriend, Dave, is so understanding and has no problem at all with me going out and doing things that make me happy. He even told me he thinks it's sexy how active I am =). Lol. maybe TMI, but I'm just in a really happy place right now and most of it has to do with both Dave and working out. I have accomplished a lot in the past few months and I feel great about it. I still have a huge feat ahead of me.....RAGNAR. Yikes. Here's a few pictures of my accomplishments this summer.....I completed the Lone Peak hike. It is now the longest hike I have ever done(it took us 12 hours!!!) In September I did the Dirty Dash which was one of the FUNNEST things I have ever ever done. Here are some pics of all the fun...
